Who we are

Twakutukuza is a Swahili phrase that means ‘We exalt You!’ Established in 2009 by cancer survivor Doris Mayoli, Twakutukuza Trust provides emotional, physical and financial support to people diagnosed with cancer.

Our History

After being diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2005, Doris Mayoli and her family went through the motions of hurting, denial, acceptance, searching for information and treatment. After her miraculous healing 11 months later, she desired to walk with, and ease the burden of those who were on the arduous journey she had been through.
In 2009 Doris organised a Twakutukuza concert to give God the glory for her healing as well as raise funds for cancer patients. The concert would give other music lovers a platform to raise their voices to inspire, heal and exalt the Great Healer. The concert was a success!
While Doris thought that the concert was a one-off, it wasn’t to be. The pledges from the concert kept flooding-in and people were asking about what other support Twakutukuza could offer cancer patients. The need was so great and, at the time, there was no one else in the country that was offering the kind of support that the cancer patients were looking for.
In January 2010 Doris organized a second concert and the turnout and funds were more than expected. It was clear that there was need to create a Trust to manage the funds and support the patients professionally. Twakutukuza was registered as a Trust and a Board was formed in 2010. Out of Doris’ pain and triumph, Twakutukuza Trust was birthed.
