About Twakutukuza Trust

Twakutukuza Trust was established to benefit people diagnosed with cancer. Twakutukuza is a Swahili phrase meaning We exalt You!.

Twakutukuza was birthed out of Doris Mayolis journey. After being diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2005, she and her family went through the motions of hurting, denial, acceptance, searching for information, treatment, hair loss, weight loss . The whole journey. After her miraculous healing 11 months later, she desired to walk with and ease the burden of those who were on the journey she had been through. Out of her pain and triumph, Twakutukuza was birthed.

In 2009 Doris felt the need to organize a Twakutukuza concert to raise funds for cancer patients and give a platform for music lovers to raise their voices to inspire, heal and exalt the Great Healer  God. The concert was a success! While Doris thought that the concert was a one off, it wasn’t to be. The pledges from the concert kept flooding in and people were asking about cancer and what other support Twakutukuza could offer. The need was so great and there was no one in the country who was offering the kind of support that the cancer patients were looking for.

In 2010 Doris organized the second concert in January. The turnout and funds were more than expected. It was clear that there was need to create a Trust and manage the funds and support the patients professionally. Twakutukuza was registered as a Trust and a Board was formed in 2010.

Twakutukuza is holistic in its approach. It looks at the emotional, physical and financial support of its clients. In Twakutukuza we:-

– Listen with empathy

– Provide advise where needed

– Provide financial aid

– Organize events to educate and boost self-image

– Organize events that raise and create cancer awareness

– Partner with donors

– We walk the journey together –
